Emergency Medicine in Kerala : A destructed speciality

In the last decade , in Kerala, almost all hospitals changed their Casualties to emergency rooms. They identified EM as prime speciality. Many Young doctors came forward passionately to EM. Now all are struggling to sustain in the present scenario. No ER trained doctors are interested to work in Kerala. Statutory body like TCMC is hunting ER doctors like a militants. First time I understand that training to save lives in Kerala is a criminal offence. I have interacted many senior doctors of various institutions. They are all so impressed about the attitude and quality of MEM graduates. They are all so surprised to see the TCMC attitude. Infact the so called EMA and recognized EM people pulled down EM back to zero or minus . Aster has forced to stop several EM services including Code blue , mobile icu etc . Training programs disrupted . If the people are fighting fir job opportunities , the reality is in India , we have 3,65,450 registered healthcare facilities excluding medical colleges. If give 3 persons per center to provide 24 hours service , India need more than 10,00,000 ER doctors right now. If the current fight progresses , India will not reach quality EM care destination in this century. The so called recognized people want to scrap not only parallel programs , they engulfed DNB as well. NBE scrapped 64 DNB seats in last session across India. EM is not speciality like Cardiology or Vascular surgery. Emergency care should reach each and every corner of the country. To reach such a destination, even parallel programs are not sufficient. We may need one year , two year programs and short courses. Forgetting these facts means people are fighting against their own shadows.
